FireWire is a data-transfer protocol, which is similar to USB, but handles data in a more efficient manner. A mixer with a FireWire connection will allow each individual input channel to be streamed directly into the computer, for separate track editing. The M-Audio Projectmix uses FireWire connectivity to stream data, as well as to send control messages to and from its motorized faders and control pots. The Presonus Studiolive 16.4.2 is a digital FireWire recording mixer that integrates directly with Presonus' own multi-track recording software, 'CAPTURE' for flawless interfacing.
