Recreation of a classic
Inspired by one of the most well-known and revered synthesizers of the late '70s, Mercury-4 accurately brings to life the character and function of a Jupiter-4 style synth. Expanding on what was possible for polyphonic synthesizers, the original hardware synth boasted "voice-assigned polyphony" with digital patch storage, allowing you for the first time to recall presets at any given moment and assign independent synthesizer voices per note. Of course, this has become a modern practice in synthesizers as technology has advanced, however, when introduced, this put the Jupiter-4 in a class of its own.
Mercury-4 delivers the same wow-factor that artists experienced when playing the original hardware for the first time by creating an indistinguishable sound, filled with all the vintage, analog character that makes this synthesizer so highly sought-after.
Stunning sound-quality
When assessing the specification of the Mercury-4, it's possible to feel underwhelmed by what can be accomplished using this plug-in, however, there's far more to it than what can be written on a spec list. A raw and raunchy tone that's filled with character and emotion allow Mercury-4 to deliver truly analog-sounding tones that can take your music production to the next level. Featuring analog-style oscillators with a uniquely aggressive tone and quality, gritty sub-oscillator and fast and deep LFO with modulation capabilities, you can explore a new creative canvas for synth tones, add to this the highly-regarded stereo chorus "ensemble" circuit and beautiful tape-echo and reverb circuits, you can add the finishing touches to your tones to help sit within your mix.
Not simply content with providing you with a 1-1 replica of the original, Mercury-4 expands on the limitations of vintage hardware, giving you more control and functions than ever before. Initially, when released, there was a maximum of eight user-patch storage locations, no editing abilities for the stored patches and only four voices of polyphony. Not only that, there was no tuning mechanism for the oscillator, meaning it could fall out of tune easily, and potentially in the middle of a live performance. Utilising the full benefits of the digital world whilst remaining true to the original sound, Mercury-4 gives you up to 16-voices of polyphony, an infinite number of storage patches with editing capabilities and a tuning system to maintain your oscillators exactly where you need them.
Powerful onboard effects
In order to create the finished article, Mercury-4 integrates world-class effects within the plug-in to give your tones the professional and polished edge they need to sit within the context of your music. Beautifully replicated, Mercury-4 contains a powerful stereo ensemble effect, taken from world-renowned synthesizer units, giving your tones stereo width and spread. Additionally, a Space-Echo-style tape delay has been integrated, giving you access to analog-style delay trails that add all manner of quirks and idiosyncrasies to your tone. Following the earlier notes of expanding on what's possible, the Mercury-4 Synthesizer Plugin expands on the Space Echo unit by adding a spring reverb with plate and hall modes for enhanced spatial depth.
