Imagine you've used some sweet, vintage tube amps in your last studio or jam session. It's time to leave but you don't really want to leave them behind! With the Kemper you can make your own profiles of any amp you like and take them all with you to use again. Create variations with alternative settings, exchange the cabinet of a profiled combo or experiment with dozens of onboard effects and stomp boxes.
Unlimited Adjustments
As well as letting you to keep all your amp sounds in a neat, compact and portable unit or allowing you to capture the sound of any amp you come across for use later, the Kemper also means you can alter the sonic character of your favourite amps way beyond what is possible with the amp itself. Change the sonic age, the bite of the pic, modify the power supply - dynamically adjust key aspects of the amps in ways which would be otherwise impossible.
- The Amp Definition parameter determines whether the profile leans more towards a vintage or modern character. Increase this parameter to intensify the touch response of the virtual tubes.
- Power Sagging: this parameter lets the tubes breathe with your playing; damped strings will have more "chug" and clean, picked notes will cut through better when you reduce your playing volume.
- The Pick parameter controls the attack of your pick independently of the gain setting even through heavy distortion. This innovative parameter lets you decouple your pick sound from the natural compression of the distorting tubes and cut right through the mix.
- The Amp Compressor will sustain the clean guitar when you play soft, but lets the distorted sound through, unprocessed, when you revert back to normal playing volume.
- The Cabinet Voicing parameters give you access to the guts and the character of the cabinet. You can change the size of your virtual cabinet, tune the bass resonance or control the tonal character in a creative way.
Effects and EQ
The Kemper Profiling Amp is also equipped with a traditional bass/mid/treble equalizer, like you know and love from many amp heads. The design is based on a traditional tone stack but the technology delivers what you would expect from a modern pro-grade equalizer. The Kemper profiling also captures the cabinet used as part of a profile but can distinguish between this and the amp head, allowing you to mix and match both in whichever way you like. Imagine being able to exchange cabinets freely, even though the amp was a combo amp before, or warp the cabinet from micro sized to larger than life!
The Kemper Profiler offers 4 independent stomp effects slots which can host a full array of stomp box effects included famous distortion, compressor, reverb, delays and a stunning rotary speaker emulation. There's also a range of classic retro modulation effects such as chorus, phaser and flanger. All stomp effects can be edited and copied between presets and the user friendly display shows different coloured LEDs to indicate the type of stomp box being used.
The Kemper also boasts an external effects loop which you can patch in anywhere among the virtual stomp boxes. The master effects section houses 6 knobs for convenient access to the most important settings. There is also a single-knob smart noise gate on the front panel. The monitor output of the Kemper amp can provide the amp sound without the cabinet if you prefer - especially beneficial if you have an existing power/amp or cabinet on stage.
Performing
The Kemper amp has two main play modes - Browser and Perform. Browser helps you find the rig you want with clever organisation and search whilst Perform arranges your rings according to a set list you'll be playing. In both modes the bright LCD display gives you a full overview of the chosen ring and the 6 rotary encoders control gain, EQ and master volume.
If you want to share your profiles or gain access to new ones you can use the Kemper Amplifier website profile exchange. There is a growing library of custom profiles and rigs from all over the world.
Editing
Editing parameters is easy on the Kemper amp. You have precise control but can still make large, sweeping changes with a single turn of a dial. The "lock" function, multiple undo and redo options along with autosave like "snapshots" prevent you from suddenly losing your sounds. Simple and intuitive, the Kempler is designed for use by musicians, not for technicians.
