Thumping bass tone
If you are looking for a loud, expressive bass that that can produce a range of dynamic sounds, look no further than the Music Man StingRay Special. When creating this bass, Music Man took their classic, single humbucker design and updated it with modern enhancements. The first thing they did was upgrade the pickup to a neodymium humbucker. With these incredibly powerful magnets, you get an immense amount of volume with a clear defined low end. This new design has a super wide dynamic range allowing you to explore an extensive selection of classic and modern tones.
Turn up the voltage
To complement the extremely powerful pickup, Music Man developed an all new 18-volt 3-band active EQ and preamp system. Traditional 9-volt systems would easily get overwhelmed when confronted with such a hot pickup - either immediately clipping the signal or squashing the sound, reducing dynamic range and destroying your tone.
An 18-volt system solves this by giving you a lot more headroom, allowing you to achieve the best sound possible from the incredibly punchy pickup. Combine this with highly tweakable 3-band EQ, and you get a active system with both the power, and flexibility to produce a wide range of sounds. Jazzy cleans to aggressive rock, anything is possible.
Fast and smooth
The neck dreams are made of. Not only does the StingRay Special have a unique sound, it also has a beautifully comfortable neck. With a hand rubbed, oil wax finish, your hand will side effortlessly to any of the 22 stainless steel frets. This allows for super fast playing with ultimate precision. The maple neck is also roasted to remove excess moisture in the wood. Doing this increases the strength and integrity of the neck, while also giving it an extremely smooth feel and a striking look. An unbelievable playing feel that cannot be replicated.
Ergonomic design
When re-imagining the StingRay bass, Music Man brought playability to the forefront. New curves and bevels on the body of the Special provide a modest weight saving while allowing the bass to lay comfortably against your body for a natural playing feel. You also get an ergonomic 5-bolt neck join. This allows for greater access to the upper frets, perfect for solos or complex riffs. Combine all this with with super light-weight ash body, and you get an instrument you can play all day in total comfort.
