About Gibson Custom Acoustics
Gibson Custom Acoustics represents the highest level of Gibson’s flat-top craftsmanship, building on a heritage that stretches back to the company’s earliest acoustic instruments. These guitars are created for players and collectors who value historic accuracy, refined tone and uncompromising build quality.
Unlike standard Gibson USA acoustics, Gibson Custom Acoustic models are built in Bozeman, Montana, at Gibson’s dedicated acoustic facility. Here, highly experienced luthiers focus exclusively on flat-top construction, using hand-selected tonewoods, traditional neck joints and carefully refined voicing. Every detail is considered, from period-correct bracing patterns to finishes applied with patience and precision.
Iconic Gibson designs such as the J-45, Hummingbird, SJ-200 and L-00 are elevated in the Custom programme, often inspired by prized vintage examples. These guitars are voiced for depth, warmth and dynamic response, delivering a played-in feel that reacts naturally to touch and picking dynamics.
Many Gibson Custom Acoustics also feature ageing carried out by the Murphy Lab, part of the Gibson Custom Shop. This intensive and highly accurate process recreates the look, feel and tonal maturity of well-loved vintage instruments, without compromising structural integrity or playability.
The result is an acoustic guitar that stands apart from mass-produced instruments, offering boutique-level craftsmanship, historic authenticity and a deeply musical playing experience that feels alive from the very first note.
