Frequency-specific Focus Slider
The Transient Shaper plug-in by Slate offers next-level precision through its innovative Focus sliders. These sliders enable you to target specific frequency ranges for processing or engage bandpass processing by holding Shift while sliding. This level of control is perfect for layering two distinct sounds together without overlapping frequency regions, providing unparalleled flexibility in audio production.
With the ability to independently focus on the frequencies of your transient and sustain processing, you can effortlessly accentuate the low, midrange or high end of a transient in your signal. This feature allows you to blend sounds by honing in on particular frequency ranges between the transient and sustain, resulting in a more polished final mix.
The Transient Shaper plug-in is ideal for crafting well-defined drum sounds, emphasizing crucial elements such as kicks, snares, or claps. Utilize the focus fader to target specific frequency ranges, and adjust the time settings to refine transient and sustain portions of the track. For kicks, enhance the presence of the transient above 100Hz for added definition and punch without overemphasizing the low-end, while reducing sustain to eliminate any ring from the kick or other instruments, creating a tighter rhythm with basslines.
For snares and claps, increase the transient's presence to add definition and impact, while decreasing the sustain to create more dynamics for a snappier feel. Lastly, employ the Warmth function to introduce saturation to each sound, ensuring they stand out even on smaller listening devices. Experience ultimate precision and creative freedom in audio production with the Transient Shaper plug-in by Slate.
Additional tone-shaping tools
Perfectly complementing the transient enhancing tools available, Transient Shaper includes a Warmth dial to introduce pleasing harmonic distortion. The Warmth dial is independent of the Transient Gain dial, meaning that saturation is applied before any transient shaping occurs, resulting in consistent saturation regardless of how you process your track. This can be used when boosting the transient of a snare drum to tame 'pokey' hits with musical saturation.
Additionally, the onboard Time knob lets you adjust the length of the transient being processed to ensure you only affect the portion of the signal you want to. When used on acoustic kick drums, this can help to minimise snare drum ring which may bleed into the sustain portion of your signal, helping to lock in a tighter and percussive sound.
For monitoring, Transient Shaper features a Listen button to isolate the processing to hear the changes independently. With three switches, you can listen to the Transient, Sustain or global Output in complete isolation, helping you to hone in on the details of your processing.

Reviews
"Transient Shaper’s built-in clipping, monitoring, and timing features give me so much more control than other transient designers. In fact, just about everything sets this plugin apart from the rest." - Matt Weiss - Mixing and Recording Engineer (Akon, Ozuna, Andre 3000)
"Transient Shaper is the quickest way to sculpt and inject vibe into my drums. What used to take three different plugins, Transient Shaper does with just three knobs." - Andros Rodriguez - Grammy award-winning Producer (Pharrell, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera)
Features
- Adjust the gain level of transients with the Transient control, where the detection circuit is level-independent
- Dial-in pleasing harmonic distortion with the Warm parameter, independent of the Transient Gain, therefore, applying saturation before the transient is cut or boosted
- Narrow the frequency range being processed with the Focus dial also impacting the sidechain being used for detection
- Adjust the gain of the detected Sustain part with the Sustain control
- When Stereo Link is engaged, a mono signal is used for sidechain detection
- Time adjusts the length of the detected transient or tail of your sound
- Listen button routes specific signal path to the output, selecting between Transient, Sustain or Out
- Boosts peaks of processed signals to match the original levels with Makeup Gain control
- Clip the output to 0dB FS, maintaining an effective gain stage at the expense of a clipping effect with the Safety Clip switch
- Blend between dry and wet signals with the Mix knob for parallel processing
