Power and beauty
As varied as their music, Scott LePage from Polyphia has created a beautiful and adaptable instrument with Ibanez. Based on the AZ series, the SLM10 refines it adding a tailor-made DiMarzio SLM Original pickup in the bridge, custom made to his specs and in the middle and neck positions is a pair of DiMarzio True Velvets. Switching is done with a five-way selector with a single tone and volume for further tone sculpting. So there's plenty of tones to explore.
A neck you won't be twisting
Built to be sturdy, strong, and stable. A 1-piece roasted maple won't move in the back of a van and is way less likely to warp when exposed to different climates. This makes it very good for taking on the road where reliability is key.
Of course, playability is essential, regardless of how good the wood is. Scott knows this, saying "I really like a guitar that has a super smooth neck so I can bounce around all over the place.”. The AZ Oval C is very comfortable in the hand, so with its flat radius fretboard makes it incredibly fast and fluid. Perfect for even the most demanding of players.
Clear, massive sound
Providing ample tone is the unique DiMarzio pickup setup. True Velvet is a high output vintage voice single coil. What makes these pickups special is how they decay higher up the neck. Above the 12th fret, notes take a little longer to decay, making every note sing - especially during solos. String balance from staggered magnets is exceptional, giving great clarity and note definition.
There's also a custom SLM Original DiMarzio pickup in the bridge, again designed by Scott LePage. This custom effort gains a specialized voice tailored to a band who like to constantly experiment with their sound. When you need a responsive pickup that is super clear underneath a lightning fast and deft hand, the SLM Original has you covered.
Reliable and hardwearing
“I really need a tremolo bar and they never go out of tune on the AZ’s, even when I completely beat the hell out of it, which I totally do." - Scott LePage
And that's what he got. The Gotoh® T1502 tremolo bridge is a dual point which is great for staying in tune. Little details like adding a Graph Tech nut are brilliant, as this is an upgrade many guitarists make and for good reason. The self-lubricating nut stops your strings sticking and ensures better string vibration, giving you a cleaner, more articulate tone. Gold on red is a classic for a reason, and that sets a precedent with this instrument.
