The Dave Smith Instruments Evolver desktop synthesizer is a compact, monophonic module with an amazing amount of sonic power. Two analogue oscillators and two digital oscillators utilise the waves from the legendary Prophet VS Classic Curtis analogue low-pass filters. Real analogue VCAs round out the analogue section, and everything syncs perfectly to MIDI.

The Evolver is notable for the way in which analogue and digital are integrated in a single package. The LFOs, step sequencer and three separate delays can all be synced for massive, rhythmic, time-based effects in stereo.
The 16 x 4 step sequencer gives evolving "pseudo-polyphonic" sounds that are hard to believe came from a monophonic synth. The Evolver also offers dedicated onboard effects, including feedback, delay and distortion, and stereo audio input for audio processing of external stereo or mono signals, making it a unique stereo effects processor.
The matrix-style interface is easy to navigate and allows quick editing and real-time control of 8 parameters simultaneously. For more polyphony, multiple Evolvers can be daisy-chained.
