Introduced in the late 1950's, the first Fender Offset guitar was the Jazzmaster. Quickly followed up by the top-of-the-line Jaguar in '62, offset guitars marked a new chapter in Fender's history. These guitars featured such as wider fretboards, shorter scales, and unique tone circuits to produce a warmer and more mellow sound than Fender's other guitars.
However, despite being designed for jazz, these guitars found favour with surf rock guitarists, who were drawn to their vibrant and twangy sound. Later, alternative and indie rock musicians also started using Offset guitars, attracted by their versatility and unique design.
