Key Features
A fully customisable tone is key, and the JHS colour box is designed to give you full control. Updated from the original colour box, its three-band EQ now includes a shift dial that corresponds to each of the frequency bands. Each shift knob offers a wide range of frequencies to centre each of the gain controls to, freeing you to draw out glistening harmonics, or dim unwanted muddy frequencies. Each of the bands delivers +/-17dB of control, really diversifying your sound. Preventing clipping, a Hi/Lo switch can open up an abundance of headroom, keeping your tone together and stopping lost frequencies.
The sound generated from this delightful pedal is identical to that of a full studio console, a feat that is incredibly impressive on its own - but wait, there’s more! Seen as a tonal shaping device, the pedal can just as easily be used as a distortion, drive, or fuzz pedal. Acting as a gain dial, the pre-vol control can be turned to embellish your sound with dirt and grit in distortion, or cranked up for that ferocious fuzz. The pre-vol ultimately decides how much of the signal is passed onto the second stage.
The step feature increases the impact of your sound will have, fully controlling the gain at each stage of the preamp, ranging from, +18dB at stage one to +39 at the 5th. The master controls your level, so if the sound becomes too crushing you can pull back and really let it shine.
A ¼” instrument cable can be utilised to set this up as a guitar pedal, or, alternatively, a DI box for other instruments. Its XLR input can also be used for other instruments, most prominently through microphones, which is why the colour box now allows phantom power to pass through, meaning a wide variety of microphones can be used to pass through the preamp.
Matching its ethos in producing the perfect sound, the Colour Box's construction is just as reliable and durable. Constructed with a larger enclosure than the original, the pedal features an LED that is perfect for live use, lighting up when you are on a dark stage. A silent switching system keeps your tone pure ensuring no pops disrupt your brilliant sound.
