About Gibson Les Paul Guitars
Gibson Les Paul guitars are one of the most iconic and recognisable instruments in the world. Developed in collaboration with guitarist Les Paul in the early 1950s, the Les Paul quickly became known for its warm, rich tone and exceptional playability. Consequently, it's been championed by many legendary guitarists like Jimmy Page, Slash, and Joe Perry - to name only a few!
The Les Paul is famous for its fat, killer tones, thanks in part to the use of solid mahogany and maple caps for the body. Newer models like the Modern eschew the solid mahogany for a lighter chambered body, but the Standard and Custom Shop models still feature entirely solid, non-weight relieved frames for a true-to-original feel.
Speaking of original components, the Les Paul was the first guitar to feature the celebrated PAF (pattern applied for) humbucking pickup. A pickup that made the Les Pauls synonymous rock 'n' roll thanks to its thick and punchy sonics. Prior to the arrival of humbuckers, Gibson used twin P90 single coils that have a much more vintage cadence.
Today, you can get your choice of humbuckers (both vintage PAF style and modern higher output) as well as sweeter sounding P90s on many models to capture your ideal musical voice.
On that note, Gibson offers a wide range of Les Paul models to suit every style and budget. From the affordable Les Paul Junior and Tribute models to the top-of-the-line Custom and Standard models, there's a Les Paul out there for every guitarist. It's also available in a variety of finishes, from classic sunbursts for fans of everything retro, to modern metallics for a contemporary attitude.
