Over twenty years ago, Jerry Cantrell bought his first G&L guitar when he worked in a Dallas music store. Jerry would eventually go onto to leave the music store and co found his main band Alice in Chains which would stay together until they went on hiatus which began in the late 1990s and carried on into the future after the death of the bands lead singer Layne Staley. Eventually the band reformed in 2005 with its surviving members. As well as Alice in Chains, Jerry had a solo career with songs such as ‘’ Leave Me Alone ‘’. Jerry's guitar style is heavy metal/ rock which is reflected in the Jerry Cantrell Superhawk.
Lightweight Maple Body
The G&L Tribute Jerry Cantrell Superhawk body is made from soft maple, and features elegant contours and an iconic shape. The soft maple produces an extremely bright, precise tone with tight lows. The overall body is finished in ivory and then coated in gloss to give a beautiful shiny finish and makes the whole guitar have a uniform and sleek look.
Top Of The Range Hardware
The hardware in the Jerry Cantrell Superhawk consists of two alnico humbuckers, a G&L saddle lock bridge and a 3-position pickup selector, volume, and tone controls. The alnico humbuckers combined with the G&L saddle lock bridge improve comfort, stronger sustain and rock solid tuning stability. The sound produced can be fine-tuned with the use of the controls by changing which of the pickups are used and what tone the pickup produces.
Hard-Rock Maple Neck & Ebony Fingerboard
The G&L Tribute Jerry Cantrell Superhawk neck is built from firm hard-rock maple with a beautiful ebony fingerboard, the neck is built in a C shape and is bolted on to the body. The hard-rock maple and ebony tonewood gives an edgy sizzle in the highs, and firm lows. With 22 medium jumbo nickel frets, the playability of the guitar is top of the range. Finished in ivory on the headstock and gloss over the fingerboard in keeping with the body and its colour scheme.
The History of G&L
G&L was founded by Leo Fender and George William Fullerton in the late 1970s after Leo sold his company, Fender, in 1965. They went on for many years building pristine guitars for the public and stars alike. Sadly, in the March of 1991 Leo Fender passed away on the very same day he finished his last prototype declaring that he had given all he can to the musicians of the world to his wife Phyllis. Before Leo’s passing, he wanted to ensure that the legacy which him and George had built (G&L) would carry on shining into the far future. It was then that Phyllis under request from Leo chose John C.McLaren (CEO of BBE Sound) to take over management, expand and develop in the way Leo dreamed. With John as the CEO and Phyllis as an Honorary Chairman, G&L continued to grow into the great company it is today just as Leo envisioned it too.
