About Digital Pianos

Digital pianos are electrical musical instruments which are designed as an alternative to their traditional, acoustic counterparts. Unlike acoustic pianos, digital pianos have no strings, hammers or soundboard. Instead they use electronic sound chips and speakers to emulate the sound and feel of traditional pianos.

When buying a digital piano, there are a number of things to consider. For example, the number of keys that the electric piano has. A good digital piano will have 88 weighted keys, like the 8865 Digital Piano by Gear4music or the Korg LP-350.

The level of polyphony of the digital piano should also be considered. The Casio Privia PX-720 Digital Piano has an 128-voice polyphony, which allows users to make extensive use of the damper pedal and play sweeping chords.

Other factors consider include whether the electric piano comes with speakers, the memory capacity, what pedal options it has, if a stand is included and what digital effects it comes with.
