Key Features
The Yamaha YFL-717 Professional Handmade Flute is suited to advancing students and committed players refining their tone and technique. Featuring a solid silver construction, it delivers a richer, warmer sound with impressive projection and a more responsive feel under the fingers. Hand-adjusted and play-tested by experienced artisans, it’s built to help you develop a clear, focused tone while giving you the control needed as your playing progresses.
Its Type Am headjoint, based on Yamaha’s handmade designs, provides an even response across the range with a comfortable level of resistance. Drawn and curled toneholes create a broad, light character, while the Split E mechanism supports a stable, centred high E. Covered keys provide a familiar, secure playing feel that many players prefer for long practice sessions and ensemble work. You also get an offset G for a natural hand position, plus Straubinger Phoenix pads for a softer touch and reliable performance in changing conditions. With a C footjoint for a warm, flexible tone, this flute is ready for lessons, rehearsals, and performances alike.

The solid silver construction gives the YFL-717 a fuller, warmer sound with strong projection and excellent tonal depth. Solid silver responds quickly to changes in dynamics and articulation, helping you shape phrases with greater precision while maintaining a smooth, centred character throughout the range. This material choice also adds a refined level of resonance, making softer passages feel more expressive and louder passages more controlled. Whether you’re performing in ensembles or developing solo repertoire, the solid silver body provides a responsive foundation that supports continued musical growth.
The Type Am headjoint is inspired by Yamaha’s handmade flute design, giving you a wider expressive range with reliable balance across every register. It offers slightly heavier resistance, helping you shape phrases with precision while maintaining a steady airflow. Whether you’re working on tone development or preparing demanding repertoire, this design supports consistent articulation and dynamic control. The result is an instrument that responds cleanly to your input, making it easier to refine intonation, projection, and tonal colour as your technique progresses.
The covered key design provides a secure, comfortable playing experience that suits advancing players and experienced flautists alike. They make finger placement feel more forgiving, particularly during long rehearsals or technically demanding passages. Combined with the offset G configuration, the layout encourages a more relaxed natural hand position, helping reduce unnecessary tension while supporting accurate technique. Hand-assembled keys provide a balanced, even action across the instrument, so fast passages and detailed articulation feel smooth and controlled rather than heavy under the fingers.
Straubinger Phoenix pads are designed specifically for this model of flute and use a patented support system rather than a traditional felt construction. Each pad features a precision-machined support unit and stabiliser that help position it accurately within the cup, creating a firm, flat base for reliable sealing. The synthetic cushion responds quickly when compressed and released, while the supported skin stays aligned with the tone hole rim to reduce distortion. Together, this design offers a softer touch, strong response, and a wide dynamic range, while remaining stable over time and less affected by changes in temperature and humidity.
Pointed key arms, inspired by traditional European styling, add a refined visual touch while maintaining smooth, reliable key action under your fingers. The increased wall thickness and carefully matched headjoint design work together to support a centred, stable feel, giving you confidence in both quiet passages and more demanding dynamics. Supplied with an FLC-654 case and FLB-65II gig bag, this flute is protected and practical for life on the move. Whether you’re heading to lessons, rehearsals, or performances, it’s built to travel securely and perform consistently wherever you play.
