Key Features
The Yamaha YBL-835G Bass Trombone is built for demanding orchestral, solo, and ensemble performance settings. Its gold brass bell produces a broader, warmer tone with impressive depth, helping you achieve a rich low-end presence while maintaining clarity and control. Designed to offer an open playing feel with strong projection, the YBL-835G gives you the flexibility needed for detailed passages and powerful dynamic playing.
The refined mouthpiece receiver allows the mouthpiece to resonate more freely, helping you shape phrases with easier articulation and a more responsive feel. Updated rotary valve ports improve airflow through the instrument, giving you a fuller sound with reduced resistance. Yamaha has also redesigned the lever system with a shorter stroke, double torsion springs, and double ball bearings for smoother operation and reduced maintenance. Plus, the detachable hand rest helps reduce strain during longer rehearsals and performances, allowing for a steadier hold without affecting the instrument’s tone.

The gold brass bell gives the YBL-835G a broader, warmer character that suits orchestral and large ensemble performance particularly well. It adds extra depth and richness to the instrument’s voice while keeping articulation clear and focused across the range. Combined with the large 14.3 mm bore and open wrap design, the result is a bass trombone that projects confidently without sounding overly aggressive. Whether you’re supporting a full brass section or performing exposed solo lines, the YBL-835G offers a balanced response with strong low-register presence and detailed tonal control.
Yamaha redesigned the rotary valve port shape to increase the valve tube volume, helping air move through the instrument more efficiently. The result is a broader, more powerful sound with a smoother response under heavier playing demands. The mouthpiece receiver has also been adjusted so the mouthpiece sits slightly shallower, allowing it to resonate more freely. This gives you a more flexible playing feel with easier tonal control, particularly useful when shaping dynamics or moving between delicate and powerful passages. Together, these refinements help the instrument feel responsive without adding unnecessary resistance.
The YBL-835G is the first Yamaha custom bass trombone to include a detachable hand rest, helping reduce strain on your fingers and hand during extended rehearsals or performances. Positioned carefully to minimise impact on the instrument’s resonance, the hand rest provides a steadier grip while allowing you to stay focused on your playing. It can also be removed completely using the supplied hex wrench if preferred. Yamaha has additionally reshaped the first lever cover for a more natural fit in your hand, while the adjustable second lever finger plate lets you tailor the setup to suit your playing position.
The upgraded lever system has been designed for quicker, more comfortable operation. A shorter lever stroke improves responsiveness and reduces unnecessary hand movement, particularly during fast valve changes. Double torsion springs provide a more consistent action, while double ball bearings help the mechanism operate smoothly over time. These bearings also reduce maintenance requirements and make servicing simpler when needed. Finished in clear lacquer and supplied with a BL-61D4L mouthpiece and case, the YBL-835G offers a professional setup ready for rehearsals, concerts, and regular performance use.
