Inspired by the legendary J-45, often known as the “Workhorse,” this Studio EC model delivers the warm, rounded tone that has made the design a staple for decades. The sloped-shoulder body shape produces a balanced, full sound with rich lows and clear, focused mids that sit beautifully under vocals. The addition of a smooth cutaway gives you easier access to the upper frets, opening up melodic lead work and higher chord voicings without compromising the guitar’s traditional look or tonal character.
The solid spruce top provides lively attack and excellent dynamic range, responding clearly to both light fingerpicking and confident strumming. Paired with layered mahogany back and sides, the result is a warm yet articulate voice with strong note definition. The tone remains controlled and balanced across the frequency range, making it suitable for a wide variety of styles. As the solid top matures with regular playing, it develops increased resonance and depth, rewarding players who practise!
The mahogany neck features a Rounded C profile that feels natural and supportive in the hand, whether you’re working through extended chord progressions or experimenting with lead lines. A 43 mm nut width and 24.75″ scale length offer a familiar feel, especially for players transitioning from electric to acoustic. The rosewood fretboard with 20 frets and simple pearloid dot inlays provides a smooth, reliable playing surface, while the glued-in tapered dovetail neck joint enhances sustain and structural integrity.
Equipped with a Fishman S-Core under-saddle pickup and Fishman Presys II preamp, the J-45 Studio EC is built for reliable amplified performance. Side-mounted controls include volume, bass and treble adjustment, along with a phase switch to help manage feedback in live settings. The integrated electronic tuner allows quick, discreet tuning between songs, reducing the need for additional gear. Finished in gloss Vintage Sunburst and supplied with a standard gig bag, it’s ready for rehearsals, recording sessions and stage use straight away.
