A 14" x 6.5" snare drum delivers a deep, powerful, and full-bodied sound with enhanced low-end presence and longer sustain compared to shallower snares. The 14" diameter provides a broad playing surface and strong projection, while the 6.5" depth adds more resonance, and a slightly lower pitch. This results in a fat, punchy tone with a solid crack and plenty of character. It still retains good articulation but leans more toward an aggressive sound, especially when tuned lower. Its rich tone and strong projection make it ideal for live performance, while the added depth offers a lot of dynamic range in studio recordings.

Steel shells produce a bright, articulate, and powerful sound characterised by a long sustain. Known for their clear, cutting attack, steel shells offer a consistent tone that easily “cuts through” mixes, making them highly versatile across musical genres. Compared to wood shells, steel provides greater clarity and definition, with a more resonant and lingering sustain that adds fullness to the sound. The rim shot on a steel shell is particularly sharp and penetrating, making it a popular choice for drummers who play in loud or high-energy musical settings.

Hand-selected snare wires

42-strand snare wires deliver a fuller, more resonant, and tonally complex snare sound compared to the more common 20 or 24-strand options. By significantly increasing the number of wires in contact with the resonant head, they produce a greater amount of "buzz" resulting in a richer, fatter sound - especially effective on deeper snares or when tuned low. This enhances the dynamic range, offering more expressive control over volume and tone, and contributes to a more substantial, nuanced snare character. While they can slightly mute the resonant head due to the added mass, this can be beneficial in live settings where a tighter, more controlled snare response is preferred. 42-strand wires are valued for their added body, tonal depth, and suitability across genres that benefit from a more textured snare sound. 

Hardware built for sound and durability

1.5mm triple-flange drum hoops offer a slightly less focused, more open, and resonant sound compared to thicker hoops. Their thinner construction provides greater flexibility, allowing the drumhead to vibrate more freely, which enhances shell resonance and contributes to a fuller tone with a slightly brighter character. This gives the drum a more natural, expressive sound, making thinner hoops ideal for drummers seeking increased resonance and tonal complexity.
