The YFH8310ZG was created alongside Bobby Shew to refine the traditional flugelhorn for modern performers. Its design focuses on delivering stable high-register playing without losing the warm, expressive sound that makes the instrument popular in jazz settings. Whether you're performing live or recording in the studio, the balanced response gives you greater confidence across a wide range of musical styles.
The redesigned valve casing has been carefully refined to improve breath efficiency while maintaining comfortable playing resistance. Every detail, from the materials to the braces connecting the valve casings, has been developed to create a responsive feel. This helps you produce notes more naturally while maintaining consistent control throughout your performance.
The shorter Malone Pipe features a tapered section between the leadpipe and valve casing, improving pitch accuracy, high-register stability, and overall playability. A brass leadpipe screw adds softer tonal character while encouraging a freer blowing feel. Its knurled barrel is simple to adjust, and the hollow design also helps optimise the instrument's balance; making tuning adjustments comfortable during rehearsals and performances.
An ergonomic third trigger has been designed specifically for Yamaha Custom flugelhorns, allowing smooth operation for players with different hand sizes. The one-piece 151.8 mm gold brass bell contributes to the instrument's rich voice, while the medium-weight construction and clear lacquer finish provide a familiar playing feel. The YFH8310ZG is supplied with a Bobby Shew mouthpiece and FHC-8310 case, so you're ready to transport and play straight away.
