Built to handle regular practice
Learning double bass means spending plenty of time with your instrument, so this model uses materials suited to regular student practice. Its laminated spruce top combines with basswood back and sides to create a lightweight, tough, and flexible body. Inlaid purfling helps protect the edges against cracking while allowing the top to flex freely. An ebonised maple fingerboard helps prevent moisture build-up, while the fitted maple bridge and metal tailpiece provide hard-wearing contact points. Together, these features give you a practical bass designed to support those important early stages of learning.
Hear your technique clearly
A warm, even sound helps you focus on the fundamentals as you learn. The laminated spruce and basswood body provides this balanced character across the registers, while steel-core strings add a clear, crisp response. This makes it easier to hear individual notes and concentrate on developing accurate playing technique. Silk wrappings on each string help you identify notes and add friction against the tuning machines. And when it’s time to tune up, geared brass tuning machines provide simple, quick adjustment.
Ready for bowing and plucking
The resonant body produces a full sound, making it suited to learning orchestral repertoire and technique. Its fitted maple bridge positions the strings at a suitable height above the ebonised maple fingerboard, allowing you to practise with either the bow or your fingers. That means you can develop both bowed and plucked techniques on the same instrument. The large resonant body produces a warm sound throughout its registers, giving beginners a clear foundation for working on note production, articulation, and control as their playing progresses.
Everything you need to begin
You can get started without sourcing the main accessories separately. The included hardwood bow uses horsehair, a round stick, and an ebony adjuster with two nickel bands, giving you the equipment needed to begin practising bowing technique. Rosin and steel-core strings are also supplied. For storage and transport, the bass comes with a canvas-covered hard-foam case. A side handle and shoulder straps give you different carrying options, while the zip fastening keeps access straightforward. There’s also a dedicated sheet music pocket, helping you keep your music with the instrument when heading to lessons or rehearsals.
Simple setup at home
If you’re buying a first double bass, setup can feel daunting at first. Don’t worry, this double bass outfit arrives partially assembled for quick setup at home. Simply position the bridge, tune the strings to E-A-D-G using the four tuning machines and you're ready to go.
