A warm sound for learning
Hearing your playing clearly is an important part of developing your technique. The laminated spruce top works with the basswood back and sides to produce a warm, even sound across the cello’s registers, giving you a clear response while practising bowing and intonation. Steel-core strings add definition to each note, helping you to notice your playing develop. Their silk wrappings also make the strings easier to identify while adding friction against the tuning pegs. It’s a sound designed to give beginners a clear foundation for lessons, exercises, and learning their first pieces.
Made for regular practice
Learning an instrument takes plenty of practice, so this cello is made from a combination of sturdy laminated woods designed for regular use. A laminated spruce top is paired with laminated basswood back and sides for a lightweight, hard-wearing body. Inlaid purfling helps protect against cracks developing around the edges while allowing the top to flex more freely. The maple bridge and metal tailpiece provide durable fittings, while an ebonised maple fingerboard helps resist moisture build-up — useful when you’re putting in regular practice at home or in lessons.
Tuning made more manageable
Getting familiar with tuning is all part of learning the cello. Ebonised fitted maple pegs let you adjust string tension, while four fine tuners built into the metal tailpiece give you more precise control over each string. This makes smaller tuning adjustments straightforward when bringing your cello to pitch before practice. The fine tuners are easy to access, helping you build tuning into your usual playing routine without distracting from the music. Once you’re ready, you can get back to the important bit: developing your technique and enjoying your next piece.
Your playing essentials are included
A hardwood bow, rosin, and hard foam case are included alongside the cello, covering the essentials for playing and looking after your instrument. The round hardwood bow uses horsehair and features a leather thumbpiece, giving you a practical starting point for learning bow control. When practice is finished, the canvas-covered hard foam case provides protection during storage and transport. A side handle and shoulder straps give you different ways to carry it, while the dedicated sheet music pocket keeps your music close by when heading to lessons or rehearsals.
Simple setup at home
If you’re buying a first cello, setup can feel daunting at first. Don’t worry, this cello outfit arrives partially assembled for quick setup at home. Simply position the bridge, tune the strings to C-G-D-A using the four tuning pegs and you're ready to go. See our setup guide for more details.
