The Tiptop Audio Clocked Delays cartridge is designed for use with the Tiptop Z-DSP module. Consisting of 8 delay programs/algorithms, the Clocked Delays cartridge gives you access to a variety of interesting effects with simple, intuitive controls. Delays can be setup quickly and easily, and can be synchronized to rhythms generated by external clock sources. Each program also features a Divide parameter, giving you the ability to customise the stereo ratios for interesting sound and stereo clock division. From classic delay lines, to unique coloured and filtered repeats, the Tiptop Audio Clocked Delays cartridge is ideal for any modular system with a Z-DSP.

The Tiptop Audio Z-DSP

The Tiptop Audio Z-DSP is a voltage-controllable digital sound processing/generation module. It is open-source, cartridge-based, and equipped with a stereo DSP processor with 24-bit sampling and 15kHz of bandwidth. The Z-DSP gives you direct control of the DSP hardware with smooth VC parameters. With a selection of separately available cartridges, containing up to 8 programs on each, the Z-DSP allows you to manipulate digital audio to create a huge range of different sounds and effects. The module offers charm and personal interaction that a computer simply cannot achieve, whilst simultaneously adding a huge array of sonic textures to your modular system.

Clocked Delays Algorithms/Programs

  • Mono L/R Clocked Taps: Single 1000ms delay line with inputs summed into mono and separate taps out to L and R. Feedback is done through external analog feedback
    • DivL: Division for the L tap. 6 ratios (1:3, 3:8, 1:2, 2:3, 3:4, 1:1)
    • Clock: Clock input (set at 0)
    • DivR: Division for the R tap. 6 ratios (1:6, 3:16, 1:4, 1:3, 3:8, 1:1)
  • Mono Clocked Low Pass: Mono 1000ms delay line with summed inputs and separate taps out to L and R. A LPF (low-pass filter) is in the feedback path, and the cutoff lowers as the feedback increases
    • Divide: Division for both L and R. 8 ratios per side (L: 1:2, 1:2, 2:3, 3:4, 1:1, 1:1, 1:1, 1:1) (R: 1:4, 3:8, 1:3, 1:2, 3:8, 1:2, 2:3, 3:4)
    • Clock: Clock input (set at 0)
    • Fdbk+LPF: Low-pass filter cutoff and feedback level
  • Mono Clocked Fdbk+HPF: Mono 1000ms delay line with summed inputs and separate taps out to L and R. A HPF (high-pass filter) is on the input and the cutoff rises with the feedback amount. Repeats can be very long using this program
    • Divide: Division for both L and R. 8 ratios per side (L: 1:2, 1:2, 2:3, 3:4, 1:1, 1:1, 1:1, 1:1) (R: 1:4, 3:8, 1:3, 1:2, 3:8, 1:2, 2:3, 3:4)
    • Clock: Clock input (set at 0)
    • Fdbk+HPF: High-pass filter cutoff and feedback level
  • Mono Clocked Bandpass: Summed inputs into a mono delay line. Two separate taps feed L and R outputs. Feedback runs through a one-pole bandpass filter with fixed frequency but increasing Q, so the bandwidth narrows as the feedback increases
    • Divide: Division for both L and R. 6 ratios per side (L: 1:2, 1:2, 2:3, 3:4, 1:1, 1:1) (R: 1:4, 1:3, 1:3, 3:8, 2:3, 1:2)
    • Clock: Clock input (set at 0)
    • Fdbk+Q: Feedback amount and increasing Q
  • Dual Clocked Delays: Two 500ms delay lines with inputs for L and R and separate outs to L and R. Feedback is done through the external Analog Feedback circuit
    • DivL: Division for the L tap. 6 ratios (1:6, 3:16, 1:4, 1:3, 3:8, 1:2)
    • Clock: Clock input (set at 0)
    • DivR: Division for the R tap. 6 ratios (1:6, 3:16, 1:4, 1:3, 3:8, 1:2)
  • Clocked Ping Pong: Summed mono input feeds the L delay line, and the output of L is also the input of the R delay line. Each delay is 500ms in length, and the internal feedback send the output of the R delay back into L. A LPF (low-pass filter) cutoff is lowered as the feedback increases
    • Divide: Division for both L and R. Same ratio for both delay lines (1:2, 1:3, 1:4, 1:6)
    • Clock: Clock input (set at 0)
    • Fdbk: Feedback amount and LPF cutoff (inverse)
  • Dual Clocked HPF: Two 500ms delay lines with inputs for L and R, and separate outs to L and R. A HPF (high-pass filter) is in the feedback path, and the cutoff frequency rises with the feedback level
    • Divide: Division for both L and R. 6 ratios per side (L: 1:3, 1:2, 1:2, 1:2, 1:2, 1:2) (R: 1:6, 1:6, 3:16, 1:4, 1:3, 3:8)
    • Clock: Clock input (set at 0)
    • HPF: High-pass filter cutoff
