Capture every detail with 32-bit float and dual converters
The Tascam FR-AV4 uses dual A/D converters and 32-bit float resolution to deliver an extended dynamic range of over 133 dB. This eliminates the need to worry about gain staging or input levels. Even in fast-changing sound environments, recordings remain clean and undistorted.
The four XLR/TRS combo inputs are backed by Tascam’s Ultra HDDA mic preamps with an EIN of –127 dBu, making them suitable for both quiet dialogue and loud action. This setup gives creators peace of mind during live shoots, interviews or field recordings, where audio peaks and lows often come without warning.
Reliable sync with built-in timecode and HDMI
Synchronising audio with video is effortless using the FR-AV4. A built-in timecode generator ensures accuracy across cameras and recorders, even without external sync hardware. It supports HDMI input and output, dedicated Timecode In and Out, and wireless sync with Atomos devices using an optional Bluetooth adapter.
You can also trigger recording directly from compatible cameras, making the FR-AV4 a tight fit within your video workflow. This reduces setup time and keeps production moving smoothly, especially in multi-camera shoots or complex recording environments.
Designed for real-world production challenges
The FR-AV4 is built for portability without compromising durability. Its lightweight aluminium chassis is compact enough to mount on camera rigs or carry on location, but tough enough to handle day-to-day production use. It records up to six tracks (four isolated channels and a stereo mix) onto SDXC cards up to 512 GB in size.
You can also cascade multiple units via HDMI to expand your track count and maintain synced recording across devices. For monitoring, both wired and wireless headphone outputs are available, each with independent volume control, which is useful when working in teams or checking sources remotely.
Flexible control, monitoring and USB audio interface
A built-in touchscreen and jog wheel make the FR-AV4 easy to operate, even in gloves or tight spaces. It also connects via USB-C to function as a 6-in/2-out audio interface for Mac, Windows, iOS and Android. You get the same ultra-clean signal path and 32-bit float recording, whether you’re tracking in a DAW or capturing on location.
Advanced features such as input EQ, limiter, noise gate and low-cut filter help shape the sound before recording, while the Tascam Recorder Connect app adds remote control options for up to five compatible devices. Combined with HDMI pass-through and camera audio embedding, the FR-AV4 becomes a complete field solution for professional content production.
