Key Features
The Genelec 8010A Professional Studio Monitors are compact, active two-way loudspeakers designed for accurate monitoring in tight workspaces and mobile recording setups. Built with a die-cast aluminium Minimum Diffraction Enclosure and Directivity Control Waveguide, it delivers balanced frequency response in challenging acoustic environments.
Product Ref: 347097
The 8010A is designed to provide professional-quality sound in a small, easily portable format. It is ideal for mobile engineers, location recording, and small studio setups. The cabinet houses both drivers and dedicated power amplifiers, an active crossover, and protection circuitry. The compact footprint makes it simple to position in tight spaces without compromising sound quality. With a balanced frequency response and accurate reproduction, it allows you to mix and monitor with confidence in any working environment.
The enclosure is made from die-cast aluminium, keeping the weight low while providing strength for long-term durability. The Minimum Diffraction Enclosure shape reduces unwanted edge reflections, improving clarity. Combined with Genelec’s Directivity Control Waveguide, the design delivers a consistent sound across the listening area, even when the monitor is placed in less than ideal positions.
Every working environment has its own sound characteristics, which is why the 8010A includes rear-panel tone controls. The Bass Tilt function reduces low frequencies when the monitor is positioned near walls or other reflective boundaries. Attenuation can be set to -2 dB, -4 dB or -6 dB to counter bass build-up.
The Desktop control reduces low-frequency boost that occurs when the monitor is placed on a table or desk, applying a 4 dB cut at 200 Hz. These adjustments allow you to maintain a flat, neutral response regardless of where the monitor is placed. Start with all tone control switches set to “OFF” and then adjust while listening or measuring your room. This process ensures your monitoring remains accurate and consistent across different setups.
The Intelligent Signal Sensing (ISS) Autostart feature powers the monitor on when it detects an input signal. After a period of inactivity, it switches the monitor to standby mode, reducing power consumption to under 0.5 watts. When audio resumes, the monitor wakes quickly. For situations where immediate start-up is required, ISS can be disabled via the rear-panel switch, allowing manual control through the power switch.
The rear panel also includes a sensitivity adjustment to match your preferred playback volume and signal source. The standard setting offers the maximum output level, while the -10 dB option reduces sensitivity for situations where lower listening levels are needed. This flexibility makes it easier to work with a range of audio interfaces and mixing consoles, ensuring smooth volume control without distortion.
The 8010A uses separate power amplifiers for the woofer and tweeter, along with an active crossover that precisely divides the signal between the two. This approach minimises distortion and improves clarity at all frequencies. With a maximum output of 100 dB SPL in the standard sensitivity setting, the monitor provides enough level for nearfield listening in most small studio and mobile setups while maintaining low distortion and accurate response.
