Choose the gain your microphone needs
The PMP1 gives you two levels of microphone amplification, helping you adapt its output to your recording setup. The output level control provides 12dB of gain at its MORE setting or increases this to 25dB at MAX. This lets you select the amount of additional level you need before passing the signal onwards to your audio interface. A balanced three-pin XLR input provides the microphone connection, while a balanced XLR output handles the link to your interface. The connection diagram on page three shows this straightforward signal path, with a microphone feeding the PMP1 before its output runs into an audio interface.
Adjust impedance to suit your microphone
An adjustable input impedance control gives you another way to configure the PMP1 for your microphone. Its adjustment range extends between 150Ω and 15kΩ, allowing you to alter the preamp's input impedance to optimise performance. Rather than being limited to one fixed impedance, you can set the control according to the microphone you're using and your preferred configuration. Combined with the selectable gain levels, this gives you useful control at the start of your recording signal chain, all directly from the PMP1's front panel.
Power dynamic, ribbon, and condenser microphones
A three-position operating switch configures the PMP1 for different microphone requirements. Select ON when working with passive ribbon microphones or dynamic microphones that don't need phantom power. For condenser microphones, switch to 48V to supply phantom power through the XLR input. The dedicated status indicator makes the current mode easy to check: it illuminates green during normal powered operation and red when 48V phantom power is active. You can also engage the 75Hz high-pass filter when you need to reduce low-frequency content, giving you additional control before your signal reaches the connected audio interface.
Recharge for portable recording
The PMP1 uses an internal 3.7V 1200mAh rechargeable battery, so you can operate it without a permanent mains connection. Charging is handled through USB Type-C at a specified 5V 1A, with support for a USB charger, power bank, or computer USB port. A dedicated battery indicator helps you keep track of its status: green shows that charging is underway, the light switches off once fully charged, and red indicates that the battery is running low. This rechargeable design makes the PMP1 easy to incorporate into recording setups where access to power may be limited.
