The amplified signal is passed through two circuits in parallel. The first is a clipping circuit. This is controlled by the Clipping Level knob and can also be modulated using CV via the relevant input. This input can also be attenuated using the CCV knob. The second circuit is an asymmetrical amplifier. This can amplify positive voltages like a standard VCA as well as amplifying negative voltages. The level of this is controllable by the Sym knob. Again, this can be modulated by CV and the corresponding attenuator (SCV). The outputs of these two circuits are then added together for the main output.
The A-116 can produce very complex waveforms from simple wave shapes like sine waves and triangle waves. Even using more complex waveforms or even audio signals can lead to very exciting results. The ability to modulate the amount of clipping and symmetry can lead to fantastic evolving sounds which can lead to exciting explorations of timbre.
