Key Features
The Tanglewood Northstar Littlestar NL6JP is a compact J-style bass that delivers versatile tone and familiar styling in a more accessible size, perfect for beginners and bassists with smaller hands. Built with a poplar body, it produces a balanced, clear response with defined lows and articulate mids, making it suitable for everything from simple practice grooves to band rehearsals. The offset body shape keeps the instrument comfortable and well balanced, while the Thru Purple gloss finish adds striking depth and modern visual appeal.
With a shorter 760mm scale length, the NL6JP reduces string tension and stretch, helping younger players and beginners feel more confident across the fretboard. A maple neck finished in caramel stain pairs with a smooth Techwood fingerboard for a comfortable, responsive feel. Equipped with a single coil soap-bar pickup, this Littlestar bass delivers focused punch and clarity in a lightweight, player-friendly format.

The NL6JP captures the essence of a classic J-style bass in a scaled-down, approachable format. Its poplar body provides a balanced tonal foundation with enough depth for solid low-end support and clarity to keep notes defined. The offset body design sits comfortably whether you are practising at home or standing in a rehearsal space. Designed with younger players and beginners in mind, it maintains the look and feel of a traditional bass while offering reduced weight and improved handling for greater comfort.
Featuring a 760mm scale length, this Littlestar bass reduces both string tension and the distance between frets. This makes stretches, position shifts and basic techniques feel more manageable, especially for players with smaller hands. The shorter scale encourages confident playing and helps build strength and accuracy over time. Despite its compact dimensions, the bass retains a satisfying response, giving you enough resistance to develop proper technique while keeping the overall feel relaxed and enjoyable.
The NL6JP is fitted with a single coil soap-bar pickup that delivers clear, direct bass tone with impressive definition. It captures the natural resonance of the poplar body and translates your playing dynamics accurately. Expect warm, rounded lows for supportive grooves and enough bite in the upper register to help lines cut through. The straightforward electronics keep operation simple, allowing you to concentrate on locking in with the rhythm and refining your timing.
The maple neck, finished in caramel stain, offers dependable stability and a smooth, reassuring grip. Combined with the Techwood fingerboard, it provides a consistent and comfortable playing surface that supports accurate fretting and steady progression. Chrome die-cast machine heads help maintain reliable tuning stability, while the Thru Purple gloss finish adds vibrant colour and translucent depth. The result is a compact bass that feels serious, stylish and ready for regular playing.
