Ibanez Super Metal Mini Overview
The Ibanez Super Metal Mini is the modern update and revival of the 80s cult classic, the SM9. The circuitry remains faithful to the original which is essentially a more aggressive Tube Screamer where the two op-amps cascade into each other for harder clipping, then with an expanded 3-band EQ section following. This means the Super Metal Mini can still do the light crunch the TS's are famed for when you roll the gain off, but it can also do what Tube Screamers cannot and handles crushingly hot, high-gain tones with aplomb. Remarkably versatile with the overdrive quality you expect of Ibanez, if you're after something higher gain, the Super Metal Mini won't let you down.

View Full DescriptionThe Ibanez Super Metal Mini crams all the character and distorted tones of the beloved SM9 into an enclosure barely half the size of the original. Ibanez even intuitively found a way to preserve the five knob layout and port it across using 2 stacked knobs. The smaller size is not reflected in the tone. The flatter EQ response means there's no standard mid-hump like with Tube Screamers but the extensive controls allow for deeper tonal customisation so you can simply dial this in, if preferred. There's plenty of gain on tap so this pedal will sound just as good as a clean boost as it will doing searing, thick high-gain distortion. If you need a compact yet powerful distortion pedal, the Super Metal Mini makes a good case for being the latest addition to your arsenal.
