The Made in Japan series from Fender introduces you to the craft and style of Fender Japan, providing you with one-off runs that embrace Fender's history. Fender Japan was first created back in 1982 to sell Fender guitars to the Japanese market. These were built in Japan to keep the price down to rival the Fender imitations that were being sold.
These Japanese productions were manufactured by FujiGen Gakki and marked as 'Made in Japan' (MIJ) until around 1992. It was then that production started moving to Tokai Gakki and Dyna Gakki, with these being marked as 'Crafted in Japan' (CIJ). It wasn't until 2015 when Fender itself took over the Japanese line, bringing you a whole new experience with classic designs in its 'Made in Japan' guitars.
The MIJ Hybrid Telecaster guitar features a classic alder body, producing a resonant and balanced tone with plenty of clarity. It also features a comfortably light weight, letting you play all night long without straining your shoulders. The tonewood provides a decent amount of sustain, creating bright, sizzling highs, excellently rounded lows, and beefy mids. Fender have used alder as their tonewood of choice since the 1950s, as the balanced response and slight upper middle definition makes it perfect for rock and blues playing.
The Hybrid Telecaster features a comfortable U-shaped profile. Something that also started to make an appearance on its American made counterparts. This type of profile was ideal for small hands since it lets your thumb naturally rest closer to the edge of the neck, providing you with better reach across the fingerboard.
The fingerboard is also equipped with vintage-style frets, a slightly modern take on the original's vintage tall frets. Vintage tall frets were perfect if you favoured finger work and bends since it took less effort to press down the string and hear the note. The vintage-style frets enhance this design with modern comfort
The additional bone nut not only adds to the Fender MIJ Hybrid Telecasters stunning looks, it also enhances the tone's natural resonance and sustain. Bone is the perfect material for guitar nuts, featuring a long life and helping the overall tone remain balanced. This type of nut naturally self-lubricates, helping the guitar stay in tune for longer when compared to modern materials.
The Fender MIJ Hybrid Telecaster comes equipped with two Pure Vintage '52 pickups, which have been constructed to deliver the sweet, twangy and articulate sound the original Tele's were known for. These powerfully-vintage pickups are constructed to be as period correct as possible from its enamel-coated coil wire to the cloth-covered output wires, fibre bobbins, and alnico 3 magnets. Fender even made sure the steel base plates are copper plated, while the pickup's pole pieces are flush-mounted just like the originals. Furthermore, the American Original's bridge pickup projects a twangy tone when the guitar is lightly picked, yet delivers a fat, juicy, warm compression when driven hard. In addition, the neck pickup delivers a sweet, articulate and clear sound to add to its melodically-vintage tonal characteristics. With this, players who love to explore the musical possibilities of the 1950's are to certain to achieve sounds from genres including rock 'n' roll, modern country, rhythm and blues, rockabilly, swing, and pop.
The rich history of Fender guitars begins with the Telecaster. An indispensable instrument, the Telecaster was the world's first successful solid-body electric guitar. Perfected after two years of development - and a name change or two - the Telecaster debuted in February 1951 and began its steady ascent towards the stage and studio. Ingeniously engineered with the ability to be heard both loud and clear, it was a marvel of simple design elegance and workhorse functionality. It is perhaps fitting testimony to its essential original rightness that the Telecaster design has hardly changed ever since.
