At the heart of the Fender Custom Shop 1960 Stratocaster Journeyman Relic is a set of Custom Shop Fat '60s pickups, designed to capture the warmth and sparkle of a golden-era Strat. These hand-wound pickups are carefully voiced to deliver the rich, rounded mids, articulate highs, and smooth low-end response that defined the tones of the early 1960s. The reverse-wound, reverse-polarity middle pickup ensures hum-cancelling performance in positions two and four, giving you that signature Strat quack without unwanted noise. You can easily move from clean blues to edge-of-breakup crunch with a touch-sensitive response. From expressive lead tones to shimmering rhythm work, these pickups give you everything you need to mimic that legendary vintage tone.
Fender’s Journeyman relic treatment strikes the perfect balance between aged character and refined detail. This lighter relic style gives the guitar a naturally worn-in look, as if it has seen years of love without drastic relicing. Subtle lacquer checking, delicate dings, and oxidised hardware bring out a road-worn aesthetic that’s brimming with personality. The aged Vintage White nitrocellulose finish is thin and breathable, helping the two-piece alder body resonate more freely while developing its own patina over time. Authentic touches like a green-backed nitrate pickguard, parchment knobs and switch tip, and vintage-style tuners tie the vintage vibe together. Every visual detail is handled with care to ensure the guitar exudes early '60s charm straight out of the case.
The neck has been designed with both comfort and historical accuracy in mind, featuring a 1960-style oval “C” profile that offers a natural, easy grip. Its medium-tinted nitro lacquer finish enhances the worn feel, providing a smooth feel. Built with a plain grain maple neck and African Blackwood fingerboard, the tonal and visual quality is exceptional. The 7.25" radius and vintage upgrade frets provide an old-school playing surface with improved flexibility, allowing for super expressive bends. Authentic wide-spaced vintage clay dot inlays and a classic small headstock further anchor the guitar’s mid-century DNA. Every detail, down to the truss rod and decal, has been chosen to replicate the feel of a true early '60s Strat.
This Stratocaster blends old-school looks with modern reliability, thanks to its period-accurate hardware and carefully selected electronics. The American Vintage tremolo system includes a vintage-upgraded 60s arm for smooth, expressive vibrato while maintaining excellent tuning stability. A relic’d parchment back plate and trem cover add visual continuity to the aged aesthetic. Inside, the Strat modern relic wiring harness features 250K split-shaft pots with a ten percent taper, offering smoother control and more refined tonal sweeps. The five-way CRL selector switch provides flexibility to explore a range of tones without compromising the vintage foundation. Finished with nickel/chrome hardware, a bone nut, and a four-bolt neck plate, every detail of this beauty delivers a seamless playing experience.
