The Fender Custom Shop 1960 Stratocaster is a tribute to an iconic era, featuring a Journeyman Relic finish that gives you authentic vintage style with a comfortably worn-in feel. The Fender Custom Shop 1960 Stratocaster captures the essence of a golden era in electric guitar design, delivering the unmistakable vibe and tone of a true vintage instrument. With its Journeyman Relic finish, you get the look and feel of a well-loved classic that’s been played in all the right ways. This lightly aged nitrocellulose lacquer finish reveals subtle checking, hardware tarnishing, and finish wear that gives the guitar an authentic broken-in aesthetic. Every detail, from the finish to the hardware, is designed to immerse you in the look and feel of a '60s Strat.
This Strat is loaded with a custom set of hand-wound Fat '60s pickups, designed specifically to bring out that sweet, bell-like tone you expect from a vintage instrument. You’ll get a warm, rounded sound in the neck position, a snappy, scooped tone in the bridge, and a wonderfully full and chimey middle that ties everything together. The middle pickup is reverse-wound and reverse-polarity (RWRP), giving you hum-cancelling performance in positions 2 and 4 of the five-way switch. That means you can enjoy classic Strat quack and sparkle without the 60-cycle hum that usually comes with single coils. Clean or overdriven, these pickups stay articulate and rich, with just the right balance of punch and nuance.
What makes this guitar really stand out in your hands is the quartersawn maple neck, shaped to a 1960-style Oval "C" profile. It’s a comfortable fit for both rhythm work and lead playing. Measuring .790” at the 1st fret and .930” at the 12th, this shape gives you that sweet spot between vintage feel and modern comfort. The 9.5” fretboard radius strikes a perfect balance—it’s curved enough for expressive chord playing, but flat enough to bend notes easily without fretting out. Topped with a AAA-grade rosewood slab fingerboard, the neck not only looks stunning but adds warmth and depth to your tone. Narrow tall frets make your playing feel effortless, with improved note separation and sustain that gives you total control over your dynamics.
Every piece of hardware and every detail on this Custom Shop Strat has been thoughtfully selected to deliver an authentic experience, while ensuring modern playability and reliability. You get an American Vintage Strat bridge with relic’d saddles and arm, giving you the look and feel of a well-played original, but with the tuning stability and durability needed for live sets and studio work. Vintage-style tuners with Fender logos and a 4-bolt neck plate round out the aesthetic, while the upgraded string tree and well-cut bone nut ensure smooth action and minimal friction. It’s all the style and tone of a true ‘60s Strat, built with expert precision.
