The Epiphone Casino features a full hollow body design, producing the same resonance as acoustic guitars, for a natural amplification of the tone. A spruce top bracing is added to ensure the guitar remains sturdy, offering the same strength as other archtop guitars. A pair of stylish “f”shaped sound holes provides a unique vibration circulation within the body, creating a clean, warm tone suitable for Jazz and other light musical styles.
The lightweight body is crafted from 5-ply maple top, back, and side panels, delivering beautifully bright tones with plenty of crispness to cut through tough mixes. The maple tonewood is known for delivering plenty for bite and sustain with excellent note separation, ensuring each note is clearly heard in chords. The sound produced is balanced across all 6 strings, pronouncing the upper mids and high frequencies while offering an articulate bass response. The addition of a tune-o-matic bridge and trapeze tailpiece adds to the classic look of the Epiphone, and enhances overall string resonance and sustain.
Coupled with the maple body is a darker mahogany set-neck, offering a beautiful contrast in colours and tone. Mahogany’s tone is mostly focused in the midrange, providing excellent presence for thick, meaty mids that feature organic characteristics. The overtones produced stack up to offer a luscious bloom for extra girth, while its well-balanced tone features a nice dynamic range. Adding a rosewood fingerboard expands the sonic properties of the mahogany neck, adding extra depth to the low end while making the highs brighter.
The Elitist Casino is designed with a set of Gibson’s famous P90 pickups, first introduced in the early 1950s and featured on the classic 1965 model the elitist is based on. The 2 pickups offer the perfect combination of chime and growl, with a high output and biting treble response to suit a wide range of musical styles. Favoured amongst jazz players for its clean, horn-like tones, the pickups feature independent tone and volume controls with a switchcraft 3-way toggle switch to offer a range of tonal possibilities.
The addition of a high quality ABR bridge and trapeze tailpiece adds to the classic look of the Epiphone, while enhancing the overall string resonance and sustain. Grover tuners improve tuning stability, ensuring players can hit hard without losing the tuning.
The Elitist 1965 Casino features a bone nut to add to its classic aesthetic, while improving string stability and resonance. The main purpose of using a bone nut compared to modern materials is the bone offers excellent resonance and sustain with a very balanced tone. In addition, this type of nut naturally self-lubricates and helps the guitar to stay in tune for longer.
