The Wolfgang Special TOM features a basswood archtop body designed to deliver a tight, immediate response with balanced resonance. Basswood keeps the overall weight manageable while producing an even frequency range that works well with high-output pickups. The arched top adds comfort under the picking arm and contributes to a more refined attack, while single-ply cream binding frames the body cleanly. This construction provides a solid, dependable platform that remains articulate whether playing clean passages or high-gain rhythm parts.
High-speed baked maple neck
A quartersawn baked maple neck reinforced with graphite rods offers excellent stability and resistance to movement under changing conditions. Carved to the Wolfgang backshape, it is rolled and finished to feel broken-in from the first time you pick it up. The hand-rubbed satin urethane finish on the back of the neck keeps movement smooth and fast. A 12 to 16 inch compound radius baked maple fingerboard allows comfortable chord work near the nut and effortless bending higher up the neck, while jumbo frets support precise control and confident articulation.
Direct-mounted EVH Wolfgang pickups
A pair of custom-designed EVH Wolfgang Alnico 2 humbuckers are mounted directly to the body to maximise resonance and sustain. These pickups deliver a dynamic response with strong midrange presence, clear highs and a tight low end. They remain articulate under heavy gain while retaining sensitivity to picking dynamics. A three-way toggle switch provides intuitive access to bridge, combined and neck positions, making it easy to move between aggressive rhythm tones and expressive lead sounds.
Reliable hardware and refined controls
The compensated TOM-style bridge and fine tuner tailpiece provide solid intonation and precise tuning adjustment, ideal for players who demand consistency during performance. A Graph Tech TUSQ nut supports smooth tuning stability, while EVH-branded tuners keep everything locked in. The volume control uses a low-friction pot with a treble bleed circuit for smooth swells, paired with a high-friction tone pot to prevent accidental changes. Chrome hardware and gold speed knobs complete the distinctive Kandy Green finish.
