The Martin GP-18E features a solid sitka spruce top which produces a versatile sound that is able to accommodate numerous genres and techniques with ease; from lighter fingerpicking styles, to heavier more aggressive strumming patterns. In addition, its stunning sitka spruce top also yields a crisp and articulate tone with a broad dynamic range, and a focused, clear sound of deep lows, warm mid-range, and bright singing highs. Furthermore, the solid top is accompanied by genuine mahogany back and sides, which produce a resonant distinct warmth. Additionally, used as back and side panels, the mahogany delivers a meaty mid-range, producing punchy, woody tones with plenty of depth and complexity that will please most playing styles.
The Martin OM-18E is perfect for the performing musician, as it comes equipped with the revolutionary LR Baggs Anthem pickup and preamp system. The preamp is discreet and soundhole mounted, ensuring no extra holes are cut into the guitar where unnecessary, offering a superb acoustic tone that is picked up and projected beautifully when amplified. The Anthem pickup integrates the element pickup with a condenser microphone, which is mounted to the underside of the bridge plate, ensuring the natural and distinctive tone of the guitar is delivered with exceptional quality. The mounting system allows for the microphone to respond as if it was sat in front of the guitar, yet still maintaining feedback control, perfect for stage performance. Furthermore, within a studio setting, the guitar can be plugged straight into a board and is able to blend in enough of the condenser mic to deliver the sonically pleasing rich warmth that the Martin OM-18E holds. The LR Baggs Anthem offers volume control, blend control, and has a convenient phase button to reduce undesirable feedback within a live setting, perfect for the performing musician.
The Martin OM-18E features a curvaceous and compact OM body, which provides a comfortable playing experience combined with a versatile sound that player's won't be able to put down. Although the OM is comfortable to play and more compact in size, the guitar produces a remarkably full sound, ideal for both studio and stage work. Its commanding voice is bold yet articulate, and offers a well-balanced sound that is perfect for fingerpicking, strumming, or soloing. Blues and jazz enthusiasts will also adore the response that the OM-18E projects when picked or strummed, accommodating numerous playing styles and techniques with equal ease.
With a select hardwood neck and a high performance neck taper, players are certain to adore the Martin's smooth and easy playability. Additionally, the neck's modified low oval shape offers a smooth and comfortable playing experience, ensuring players have a firm, comfortable, and secure grip up and down the neck. Its select hardwood neck is topped with an ebony fingerboard which adds a bright attack, superb sustain, and plenty of bite to the guitar's overall sound. For added elegance and a hint of vintage-inspired creativity, the OM-18E's fingerboard is also sprinkled with abalone old style 18 inlays.
Plek Technology uses a computer-controlled machine that carefully measures each fret, along with the fingerboard height under each string. This innovative Plek Technology then automatically dresses each fret, virtually eliminating string buzz and greatly improving the overall playability of the guitar. This pioneering process does the same work in a matter of minutes in comparison to how long it takes a luthier to complete the same job which can take up to several hours, sometimes even days to accomplish.
The Martin OM-18E features scalloped X bracing, which reinforces the guitar's overall structure, and prevents it from collapsing under string tension. The OM-18E's bracing allows the top to vibrate more freely yet remains incredibly stable, enhancing the overall sound to provide an extremely responsive acoustic with superb volume and projection. Furthermore, scalloped bracing adds more emphasis to the bass response of the OM-18E and also enhances the guitar-top production.
The OM-18E features a real bone nut, which offers excellent resonance and sustain, along with an authentic appearance. A bone nut also delivers a very balanced tone, and will last a long time. In addition, this type of nut naturally self lubricates and helps you stay in tune for longer.
Please note: Martin do not ship their guitars with the strap button installed on the bottom of the guitar. They do this to avoid any impact cracks that may occur during shipping. You can find your strap button inside the case compartment.
