The Gibson Songwriter 12 String produces a supreme tonal quality, and features Gibson's time-honoured bracing pattern of the 1930's with the original dreadnought shape. With a stunning sitka spruce top and rosewood back and sides, the Songwriter delivers a rich mid-range with plenty of high definition, ensuring each note played is heard clearly and beautifully. The Songwriter's sitka spruce top yields crisp articulation and produces a broad dynamic range that offers a focused clear sound of deep lows, a warm mid-range, and bright singing highs. Paired with rosewood back and sides, the Songwriter delivers clear articulation, with deep lows and a throaty growl. Both tonewoods add their own distinctive character to the overall tone of the Songwriter, and offers a high-level of professional performance through its superb construction and design.
Constructed from mahogany, the Gibson Songwriter's neck provides players with plenty of resonance and great durability. Many instrument necks are crafted from mahogany because the wood responds greatly to many different playing techniques with equal ease. Due to the 12 string construction, the neck has a rounded profile and a slightly widened neck to allow the extra string space whilst still providing an extremely comfortable and smooth play. Married to the body with a compound dovetail joint for a strong and sturdy lifespan, this self-locking joint provides superb durability. The neck features a rosewood fingerboard which offers a warm, bright, tonal character with a sizzling-sparkle that really shines through when using fingerpicking techniques. The Gibson Songwriter's 12 string sound is truly in a world of its own, providing players with a rich, resonant, sparkly tonality that will accommodate 12 string play perfectly.
The Gibson Songwriter comes equipped with the popular VTC pickup from L.R. Baggs, which features a low-profile undersaddle pickup that's proven more stable and durable than many standard ribbon-type pickups. Combined with an unobtrusive and removable volume/tone control mounted just within the soundhole, the VTC and the Songwriter together provide the idyllic setup for the professional musician. The VTC features rotary controls for both volume and tone shaping, and is designed to project the rich sonic character that you'd expect from a mic'd up performance in a studio environment.
The Gibson Songwriter 12 String features a square shoulder body shape which provides players with superb projection and overall tonal balance. The big body is better suited to players with a longer reach. The sheer volume the Songwriter can project makes it ideal for the singer/songwriter, as vocalists can really push their diaphragm to the max and not feel too loud against the guitar's volume, as it will sing as loud as you do. Its square shoulders offer a bit more volume and a boomy voice that can handle many styles of play.
The Gibson Songwriter 12 String features Gibson's time-honoured, traditional hand scalloped X-bracing from the late 1930's. This specific type of bracing structure consists of two braces forming an 'X' shape across the soundboard which not only enhances the sound and offers a well-balanced tone with supreme projection and clarity, but also provides a reinforced stable and durable structure.
