The Katana Artist Gen 3 represents the most advanced stage-ready Katana head design. BOSS’s evolved Tube Logic architecture recreates the behaviour of classic valve amplifiers, giving you responsive dynamics and natural breakup as you play. Six amp characters provide a broad tonal palette, including the newly developed Pushed type for richer drive tones. Each amp character also includes a selectable variation, effectively doubling the tonal range available. This flexibility makes it easy to move between clean, crunch, and high-gain sounds without needing additional gear.

Fine-tune feel and tone with advanced shaping tools

This amp head offers extensive tone shaping directly from the front panel. The Bloom switch activates a dedicated circuit that alters the amp’s response and playing feel, giving you a different dynamic character depending on the style you’re playing. A three-way Contour control adjusts the overall tonal colour, while three selectable Global EQ settings help tailor the amp to different guitars, venues, or speaker cabinets. Cabinet Resonance modes — Vintage, Modern, and Deep — further refine the low-end response so you can match the feel of different cabinet styles.

Built-in effects and custom editing through BOSS tone studio

Five independent effects sections — Booster, Mod, FX, Delay, and Reverb — give you access to a wide range of onboard BOSS effects without needing external pedals. For lead playing, a dedicated Solo section adds a level boost and delay effect, helping your parts cut through in a mix. Through the updated BOSS Tone Studio software, you can customise over 60 effect types, adjust detailed parameters, change effect order, and save your setups. You can also organise Livesets for different gigs or recording sessions, making tone management quick and practical.

Stage-ready connectivity and wireless control

The Katana Artist Gen 3 head integrates easily into modern rigs thanks to its extensive connectivity. A Power Amp In allows you to use external preamps, modellers, or multi-effects units, while the effects loop supports external pedals with flexible routing options. Stereo Expand lets you link a second Katana for wider stage coverage, and multiple speaker outputs support various cabinet configurations. With the included BT-DUAL adaptor installed, you can stream backing tracks via Bluetooth and adjust amp settings wirelessly from the BOSS Tone Studio mobile app.
