Slope generator
The slope generator is integrated into the circuit via the 3 way switch below the FM LVL control on the Entity BDS. The switch selects FM, FM+ENV or just ENV as a mod source. This control utilises a bipolar attenuator which affects the slope generators level. Alternatively, this can be used to control an external modulator affecting the pitch of the output.
Rise/fall envelope
This section of the Entity BDS is a two-stage function generator. With a slope time ranging from 1ms to around one minute, a multitude of effects can be achieved with the envelope. Various slope shapes can be selected independently for the two envelope stages. Different dynamics can be achieved for pitch and amplitude due to the envelope being designed to re-trigger at a set point. For instance, the sound can vary between any number of triggers that fire before the envelope set point is reached.
The rise/fall envelope can be utilised a number of ways, the direct envelope output allows you to create complex patches with your current signal path. Alternatively, the ‘Duck’ output provides a way to control external VCA’s. This creates a compression effect by ducking the VCA when the envelope activates.
Body and Ring control
A subtle feature, BODY simulates the tightening and loosing of a drumhead. Not to affect the tuning, the BODY at full ‘tightness’ creates a soft, muted signal sound. Alternatively, all the way right creates a loose drumhead sound. In the middle, the BODY control produces a resonant drum sound. Combined with other parameters, including signal pitch, the BODY control can be used to fine tune your signal and create original drum sounds.
RING controls the resonant decay time. Whether you're aiming for a short plucking sound or infinite ring, the RING control can provide this. The filter design ensures the signal will still resonate slightly with the RING control all the way down.
Classic overdrive
The saturate control allows you to produce the vintage low-end distortion sought after by analog enthusiasts. This is achieved with an aggressively tuned class-A discrete amplifier. With just a small amount of saturation added, you’ll immediately notice the effect on your signal. At the other end of the spectrum, the saturator has the ability to overdrive the output stage for a hard-clipping effect. This can be compensated with the output control to maintain the correct output level.
Output section
Depending on the switch setting, the output can be blended with a secondary input thanks to the parallel signal processor design. This means you can blend small amounts of the Entity BDS effect into your main signal path. Alternatively, the signal can run independently through the Entity BDS. The level of blend can be controlled which, when combined with the various features on the Entity BDS, provides a huge amount of sound shaping possibilities.
Creative patching
It’s possible to access the VCA directly via the A-MIX input. This means you can use the Entity BDS output section as a standalone VCA, or to mix other signals. Feedback patching can be achieved and results in some complex signals that will keep you occupied for hours. The filter can also be used in combination with the nominal output via the F-MIX input. This input is sensitive to pulse and trigger width. The effect of this can be used to create dynamic rhythms that are less dramatic but extremely musical.
