The Taylor 214ce DLX features a solid sitka spruce top, offering a combination of strength, elasticity and versatility that translates into a crisp and articulate tone with a broad dynamic range. Sitka spruce's versatile tonal character accommodates everything from aggressive strumming to lighter fingerpicking styles and flatpicking. To accompany the solid sitka spruce top, Taylor have added layered copafera back and sides which offer a striking, attractive appearance and durability. The layered rosewood back and sides feature an all-wood laminated construction, the interior and exterior layers are made up of a stunning rosewood veneer that have been separated by a core layer of poplar. With a solid sitka spruce top and layered copafera back and sides, the Taylor 214ce is certain to project a clear and well-balanced response.
For added volume at larger events, the 214ce DLX is equipped with Taylor's Expression System 2 electronics. This revolutionary pickup design features three uniquely positioned and individually calibrated pickup sensors, which enable a more dynamic range of acoustic sound to be captured than ever before. This high-quality system delivers a superb tone and responsiveness, either on stage, or even in the recording studio.
Constructed from sapele, the Taylor's neck offers a consistent and balanced sound, adding warmth with a little extra treble to the 214ce's overall sound. The sapele neck also offers great durability due to its scarf neck joint, which prevents the neck from having a weaker point, resulting in an extremely strong connection between the neck and headstock. The neck is finished with satin, offering players a fast and smooth playing experience. In addition, the neck is topped with an ebony fingerboard which adds a bright attack with superb long-lasting sustain to the Taylor's overall sound. Its fingerboard is also sprinkled with Italian acrylic small diamond inlays for added elegance.
A significant factor behind the incredibly sonically pleasing sound of the Taylor 214ce DLX is the forward shifted bracing pattern, which allows the tonewoods to vibrate naturally, creating incredible depth and complexity. The 'X' within the bracing pattern is moved closer to the soundhole, enabling more of the top to vibrate which delivers maximum tonal quality and projection. Bracing also reinforces the guitar's structure and prevents the body from collapsing under string tension.
The Taylor 214ce DLX features a grand auditorium body, which is an original Taylor design that was first introduced in 1994. The grand auditorium shape is one of Taylor's most popular and versatile body types, this is due to it being able to produce an original acoustic voice that is big enough to handle aggressive strumming to light and medium-strength picking styles. Furthermore, the Taylor's grand auditorium body features an impressive balance across the tonal spectrum, especially within the mid-range, producing clear and well-defined notes that suited to numerous genres and playing styles. With all this, the Taylor 214ce DLX is an ideal choice for singer-songwriters who require a versatile instrument for composing, gigging, and studio sessions.
The Taylor's grand auditorium body features a Venetian cutaway, which is renowned for its soft, round lines, creating a visually stunning appearance that is recognisable on any guitar body. This type of cutaway allows easier access to upper frets, offering comfort and freedom across the entire fingerboard.
