Key Features
Product Ref: 94801
The Mutable Instruments Branches utilises two identical Bernoulli gate sections. Inside the module is a connection that routed the input of section 1 to section 2. If a jack is connected into the input of section 2, this connection will not be made unless the jack is removed.
When a trigger is received through the IN input of a gate section, Branches will carry out a virtual coin-toss. If the result of the toss is heads, the trigger will be sent to OUT A. If however, the outcome is tails, then the trigger will be sent to OUT B. Each gate section features a probability control knob with a CV input. This knob and input gives you control over the odds of the heads and tails outcomes. When set to extremes such as fully clockwise or counter-clockwise, the random nature of the coin-toss is lost, causing the module to react and behave similar to a voltage-controlled switch. These controls give you the option of achieving a 100 percent chance of the trigger being sent to A with 0 percent to be sent to B, and vice-versa.
When you set the Branches to toggle mode, the module will associate the heads and tails results to a different pair of decisions. It can either continue sending the trigger to the same output as before, or it can send the trigger to the opposite output. This changes the control knob so that when set to its maximum value, the trigger will alternate between outputs A and B. Toggle mode can be enabled or disabled via the black switch in the top right corner of each gate section.
The Mutable Instruments Branches also features a latch mode. When enabled, an output will stay at +5V until the other output is activated. Holding the black switch in the top right corner of each gate section for 1 second will enable or disable latch mode. Toggle and latch settings are kept in the Branches' memory, whether the module is powered on or off.
