Percussive Sound Design
The Plonk module has the ability to produce a great deal of percussive sounds both natural and unnatural, pitched and not pitched, and acoustic sounding or electronic. Whatever percussive sound you are looking for you will be able to create, or get close enough to, with the Intellijel Plonk. The way this module works is by breaking down sound creation into two specific elements - the exciter and the resonator. Due to the Plonk being percussion orientated it consists of 2 exciters with one modeled on a mallet and the other providing a noise source. The resonator is a virtualisation of the object being hit and offers several types of resonators including beam, marimba, drum head, membrane, plate and string. The Plonk boasts being able to accurately mold the sounds of kicks, snares, claps, hats, cymbals, toms, tablas, congas and much more as well as pitched percussive instruments such as marimbas, vibes, and bass or guitar-like sounds. Additionally users are able to create sounds that heretofore never existed.
The Plonk features all the essential parameters you need for percussive sound creation. It features a pitch knob that allows you to change the pitch of the sound. A convenient red trigger button is fitted to the design enabling you to manually trigger the exciter which is useful for previewing sounds or hand-operating sequencing. The decay knob allows you to adjust the decay time of your sound giving you much more flexibility over your sounds.
As well as a range of percussive sounds to choose from, the Plonk offers a coherent display enabling you to clearly see the selected patch. There's no need to worry about the screen lifetime as the Plonk is fitted with a screensaver that actives after 15 minutes and blanks the screen to conserve screen lifetime. Its two LEDs change brightness to show the amplitude of the two voices' audio signals. The encoder knob is used to easily navigate between the settings menus providing a smooth user experience.
The Intellijel Plonk is a duophonic (2-voice) module as it allows any sound you design to respond dynamically to velocity meaning the sound of Plonk can change completely from note-to-note. The module lets the sound of one note decay naturally when a second note is played.
Along with its essential parameters and clear display, the Plonk is fitted with 128 preset slots allowing you to save your presets or patches. The Plonk comes with many presets already programmed by professional sound designers and composers. However, you do have the choice to overwrite these with your own patches, and also banks of patches can be transferred easily via MIDI System Exclusive over Plonk's built-in mini-USB port to facilitate offline storage by programs or websites that support this capability.
