4ms Shifting Inverting Signal Mingler

Details
The 4ms Shifting Inverting Signal Mingler, also known as the SISM, is a four-channel voltage manipulator. The SISM can shift (dc offset), scale, attenuate, invert, split, slice, and mix your audio and CV signals. Fourteen blue and red LEDs allow you to see precisely what each output jack and channel are doing. Each channel is completely independent, and is equipped with input and output jacks, an attenuverter control knob (for attenuating and inverting), plus a know for applying positive or negative DC offset. The SISM also features four jacks on the bottom of the front panel enabling you to combine the four channels in different ways. The 4ms Shifting Inverting Signal Mingler is a flexible and intuitive solution for manipulating signals in your modular system.

Independent Channel Controls

The SISM (Shifting Inverting Signal Mingler) is equipped with four channels. Each of these channels allow you to scale, invert, attenuate, shift (DC offset), mix, split, and slice your audio and CV signals. These channels are also independent, with each featuring their own input jack, output jack, Scale knob (for attenuating/inverting), and a Shift knob (the DC offset control). The channels are normalized in pairs: 1&2, 3&4. This is handy for splitting a signal into two or more altered forms. Jumpers on the rear of the module allow you to disable this normalization. Each channel is also equipped with a jumper relating to the Scale control knob. This gives you the ability to make the Scale knob unipolar, so it will attenuate only without inverting. This is perfect for mixing audio instead of CV.

Variety Of Channel Options

The 4ms SISM features four jacks at the bottom of its faceplate. Using these, you have a collection of different channel combinations. The Mix (MIX) jack gives you a straight mix of all four shifted inputs. Using the Switched Mix (MIX (SW)) jack gives you a mix of all channels that have nothing plugged into the OUT jack. Positive Slice (+SLICE) is the sum of all output voltages greater than zero volts, and Negative Slice (-SLICE) is the sum of all negative voltages. You can shift some channels positive, and some negative, using the SHIFT control knob for each channel. This gives you the ability to use the +SLICE and -SLICE jacks as sub-mix outputs. You can also run a slow triable wave into one channel, which makes the remaining channels "dirty pan" between the slice jacks. This means that the signals are half-wave rectified as they span between both outputs.

Features

  • Four independent voltage processor channels, and four mix/mingle outputs
  • Each channel has:
    • Input Jack
    • Scale Knob (Fron inverted unity, to zero, to unity). Center-detented
    • Shift Knob (Adds/subtracts DC offset from -9.5V to +9.5V). Center-detented
    • Output Jack
    • Red & Blue LEDs for indicating positive and negative signal. Brighter means more voltage, dimmer means less
  • Mix jack outputs the sum of all channels
  • Mix switch jack outputs sum of all channels with nothing plugged into their output jack
  • + Slice jack outputs positive portion of your mix (voltages greater than 0V)
  • - Slice jack outputs negative portion of your mix (voltages less than 0V)
  • Red & Blue LEDs on all four mix/mingle jacks to indicate positive and negative signal. Brighter means more voltage, dimmer means less
  • Inputs for channel 1&2 and 3&4 are normalized together. Plugging into channel 1 (or 3) will split the signal to channels 1 and 2 (or to 3 and 4). A jumper on the back enables/disables this normalization
  • Scale knob has three ranges that are selectable with jumpers:
    • Bi-Polar: -1x to +1x (inverting unity to unity). The default setting
    • Uni-Polar: 0 to +1x (level fader)
    • Boost: 0 to +2x (twice the voltage gain)
  • Input header (2x4) that connects the output of a QCD or QPLFO to the SISM's inputs. Plugging into the SISM input jacks overrides the signal on the header
  • Output header (2x4) that connects the SISM's channel outputs to the input of a VCA matrix or other compatible module
  • PAD breakout header (2x4) that can connect to an external DIY module that enables a pre-set pad (attentuation) on each channel
