Portable, modular synthesizer
Introducing the world of modular synthesis. The Modular 400 is an analog synthesizer that hones its sights on the thing that matters most. Sound quality. Teenage Engineering have opted to strip back the trappings of modular novelties to provide you with a cheaper alternative to the often costly Eurorack system. Everything you need, but nothing you don’t. However, do not mistake this streamlined design philosophy for low quality. The Modular 400 is anything but.
Made up of multiple pocket operators, the Modular 400 offers incredible sound quality at an impressively attractive price. And its minimal aesthetic is intuitive and pleasing to the eye. Teenage Engineering excel in product design and the 400 is no exception.
Warm and powerful analog sound
The 400 is a cutting edge analog synthesizer. It includes all the modules you need to make noise. With 16 in total, there is a huge scope for sound design. The high-quality components mean you’re getting the best sound you can achieve.
The circuit design cleverly keeps the modules compact and their intelligent design means that despite their size they can work with regular Eurorack gear. It is pure versatility combined with Teenage Engineering’s excellent sound quality – resulting in an excellent patching experience.
In-depth controls and integrated sequencer
The Modular 400 features everything you need to get patching and making amazing and unique sounds. The modules included are a 16-step sequencer, filter, LFO, two envelopes, noise, random generator, and two VCAs. Also included is a mixer for getting the levels on point and a speaker for portable patching on the go. It’s all battery powered so you can take it anywhere you want.
Think twice, bend once
All kits come with the parts you need to build your own personal modular synthesiser. Start with the sheet metal chassis. The sheet metal parts (A, B) come flat so you need to bend them accordingly (don't worry, the kit includes a 70 page illustrated colour manual with clear instructions and bend angles).
Most people manage to build one in under 15 minutes. When the chassis is done, you move on to mount the modules (M), snap in the wire connectors and finalize your build with knobs and rubber feet. Just follow the steps and you'll be fine.
Note: Download the system dimensions guide to make your own conversion from 'pocket rack' to eurorack.
