The Signature Mustang Bass features a classic alder body, producing balanced, resonant tones with plenty of clarity and midrange bite, ideal for the versatile musician. The alder tonewood provides a decent amount of sustain, creating bright, sizzling highs, excellently rounded lows, and a beefy midrange. Fender have used alder as their tonewood of choice since the 1950s, as the balanced response and slight upper middle definition makes it perfect for rock and blues playing.
The addition of a maple neck provides the Fender bass with a beautifully bright characteristic, tightening up the overall tonality and deliver plenty of cut, while its ‘’C’’ profile provides a comfortably smooth performance. The neck is coupled with a rosewood fingerboard to enhance the bass with warm, soft tones, and ‘fur up’ the maples harsh edges for a sizzling high end and an open midrange attack. The rosewood’s naturally oily surface allows any stray overtones to be absorbed into the pours, offering the bass a natural fundamental tone, while the maple delivers a powerfully sharp punch when the strings are hit hard.
The original Mustang tone is one that dominated the alternative music scene in the 60s and 70s, as well as featuring on albums by iconic bands like the Rolling Stones and My Chemical Romance. This Seymour Duncan custom shop pickup captured that iconic tone and delivers it to the modern musician. The Mustang Bass split-coil pickup is designed to open up the frequency range, delivering the same feel and tonality as the originals.
The Fender Bass incorporates a string-thru body construction to improve the overall tonality and sustain, transferring the vibrations and resonance from the strings to the body. The Mustang bass bridge features a 4-saddle setup, keeping the strings stable while allowing the bass to be played harder without going out of tune.
Featuring a carefully fitted synthetic bone nut, the Mustang Bass delivers an increased resonance and bright tonality. When compared to traditional plastic and Tusq guitar nuts, synthetic bone improves the vibration transfer between the string and tuning machines without dampening the tone.
The Mustang bass was created as a companion for the range of Fender Mustang guitars, and was the last original bass designed by Leo Fender before his departure. The Mustang has become a hallmarked shape in underground music and culture, featuring in bands from the Rolling Stones to My Chemical Romance. Since its launch in 1964, this unique bass has become a classic choice for performing musicians worldwide thanks to its short scale length accommodating players with small hands.
