The Wind Gong, also known as the Feng Gong or Lion Gong is a flat bronze disc which is lathed on both sides producing a high pitched quick attack, with bright, aggressive overtones and a long sustain. Due to its smaller diameter this particular gong sounds less abrasive than many larger gongs, producing a sweet, bell-like tone with great versatility.
Don't let the size fool you though, this wind gong can be a monster! It's not as dark in timbre as the larger models but when struck hard it produces a trashy-splash effect used by many rock drummers. Strike the gong with a nylon tip drumstick and you'll get a crisp 'ping' sound, similar to that of a big, heavy ride cymbal. Alternatively, strike the gong with the included soft mallet and you'll hear an exhilarating yet calming shimmer.
This Wind Gong can be used as a hand gong or is easily attached to a small gong stand, using the hanging strap provided, often for incorporation into a large drum kit. Due to the relaxing nature of this gong's tone it can also be used in meditation, spiritual events, or even simply for decoration, as it looks every bit as good as it sounds.
