The Streets chill out
The Streets' Mike Skinner's "music, life and art" has been greatly improved since he bought air conditioning.
The 'Everything Is Borrowed' rapper explained in a new video how investing in air conditioning in the studio where he works has affected his output. The vide has also raised speculation about Mike's new album as the short video on the band's website features what appears to be a sample of new music.
The sound is piano led, and electronic with a heavy dance beat, not to far removed from the Streets' existing material, and features no vocals. The video is accompanied by shots of synthesisers and from a studio and also shows Mike slumping on a sofa.
Over the video a message reads: "I read a thing once, where some travel writing legend said the secret to travelling is that whatever displeasing situation you encounter upon, you can always make yourself more comfortable.
"Find a nicer angle in your seat, put your head near a breezy window, or put on an extra pair of socks on. And it does work.
"In the past year, I've amassed a prodigious amount of vintage valvery in the workhouse. Hundreds of valves in a soundproofed room. And you start to get side effects similar to the main function of a sauna. I always used to have my comfort down as secondary to the engineering of sound; it started to get silly though. It was like trying to make beats in the engine room of a Merchant Navy ship.
"So I called in the sales t***s and stumped for a dose of refrigeration.
"And there lies my point. It's amazing how a stable temperature of 23 degrees C has affected my music, my life and art. I urge you make yourself comfortable."
Mike has previously announced that his fifth album will be The Streets last and he is planning to call it 'Computers and Blues'.Posted on 21 Oct 2010 06:45 to category : Music News
