Steve Morse joins guitar playing record attempt
Deep Purple's Steve Morse has signed up to take part in an attempt to break the world record for the largest ever guitar ensemble.
The American musician, who replaced Ritchie Blackmore in the legendary rock band 15 years ago, will be at the Thanks Jimi Festival in Poland on May 1st, which will yet again culminate with the Jimi Hendrix-celebrating record attempt.
In 2008, 1,951 people on electric, acoustic and bass guitars played Hendrix's Hey Joe in unison and the organisers are hoping to top that number this year now that they have a star axeman onboard.
Due to the Deep Purple link, Smoke on the Water will also be played at the event next month, which is now in its sixth year.
As well as paying homage to Hendrix - the greatest guitarist of all time, according to Rolling Stone - festival organisers are also hoping to get May 1st established as World Guitar Day.Posted on 9 Apr 2009 11:55 to category : Band / Celebrity News
