Soul surfers MGMT
MGMT have promised their new album will be a "weird shock" for fans.
The 'Time to Pretend' hitmakers are planning to release their second LP, 'Congratulations', in the Spring and admits they have adopted a radically different sound to that on their critically-acclaimed debut record 'Oracular Spectacular'.
Frontman Andrew Van Wyngarden said: "It's definitely going to shock people. In a weird way, it's like a soul record."
Although the sound of the record is different, Andrew promises many themes of the first album will be continued, in particular his favourite hobby of surfing.
He explained to Spin magazine: "When we were making the first record, I didn't surf. But for whatever reason, I was dreaming about waves and surfing for about a year straight - so that made it into the lyrics and the imagery of the record.
"Then about a year ago, when we were recording 'Congratulations' in Malibu, I started surfing. It's definitely a theme. There's one song called 'Siberian Breaks' and it's about 12 minutes long. The general theme is about surfing in the Arctic Circle by Russia."Posted on 25 Jan 2010 07:30 to category : Band / Celebrity News
