Sir Paul McCartney wins songwriting award
Bass guitar player Sir Paul McCartney has been named Songwriter of the Year at an awards ceremony.
The former Beatles and Wings star received the honour from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) at an event in London last night.
McCartney was handed awards for three of the Fab Four's hits - Come Together, All You Need Is Love and Hello Goodbye.
Other winners at the event included Coldplay, who were handed the Song of the Year award for their track Viva La Vida, while Universal Music Publishing was named Publisher of the Year.
McCartney's success comes ahead of the release of his new live album and DVD, which features the highlights of three gigs at Citi Field - formerly Shea Stadium - in New York.
Good Evening New York City will feature performances of classics including Drive My Car, Jet, Band on the Run and Paperback Writer, as well as newer tracks such as Highway and Sing The Changes.
