Samba group to perform at carnival
A samba group are hoping to bring the spirit of Rio to Bromsgrove next week at the town's annual carnival.
Glamba have been working with a group of young people from St Basil's, teaching them how to play a variety of samba music instruments, reported the Bromsgrove Standard.
A total of 16 young people, aged between 16 and 25, have been learning how to use the percussion instruments to make captivating sounds and will finally put all their hard work to the test when they perform at the carnival.
St Basil's is an organisation that helps young people find accommodation as well as providing support to help them in education, employment and training.
The project with Glamba is just one example of the many activities St Basil's residents can participate in to boost their confidence and get them interacting with others.
Leigh Hesketh, from St Basil's, said: "This provided a wonderful opportunity for our young people to explore a different type of music, work together as a percussion group and enjoy getting their groove on."
Glamba are a theatrical percussion group that bring together African, Brazilian and Western beats to create a "dynamic force of rhythm 'n' soul. They are experimental and try to use a variety of music instruments including congas, drum-kits, electronic drums, dustbins and even a "kitchen sink".
