Red Hot Chilli Peppers bass guitar player talks about the band's rebirth
Flea, whose real name is Michael Peter Balzary, was speaking about the band's new album I'm With You, which has seen the iconic rock band adopt another musical direction.
He told Stereogum that one of the biggest changes was the absence of electric guitar player John Frusciante, who has left the band to work on solo projects.
Flea said: "The number one difference is John Frusciante left the band, and he was a huge part of our creative process for a long time. I’m so grateful for him.
"He just gave us so much as a songwriter, as a player, as a human being, and just his relationship to music, which is such a beautiful and pure and powerful one."
Flea explained that the band's career had been a series of "lives and deaths and rebirths" and that the current changes to the band had been equally major "aesthetically, emotionally and spiritually".
In the revealing interview, the colourful bass player, who is known for his colourful hairdos, waxed lyrical about the importance of education, having himself went back to an academic environment for a year.
The Red Hot Chilli Peppers new album will be released on August 30th.
