Noddy Holder 'proud' of classic Christmas song
Slade's electric guitar player and frontman Noddy Holder has said he is very proud of the band's legendary Christmas song.
Merry Xmas Everybody was the festive number one in 1973 and has been regularly played on the radio in every subsequent year.
Holder, who co-wrote the track with bass guitar player Jim Lea, said that even after 36 years, he is still not bored of the track.
"I'm very proud of the song," he told BBC News.
"I think it still appeals and always has over the years."
Holder revealed that the song came about after Lea's mother-in-law asked him why Slade had never gone about writing something that could come out every year like Happy Birthday.
The pair then set about writing Merry Xmas Everybody, which Holder said took on a life of his own and has even provided him with his pension.
Slade also notched up a string of other hit singles in the 1970s and 80s, such as Coz I Luv You, Cum On Feel the Noize and Mama Weer All Crazee Now.Posted on 24 Dec 2009 19:00 to category : Music News
